POLITICAL AFFAIRS: The Yamina leader got only seven seats when Israelis voted, but he turned that into victory in the contest that really counted

I have no illusions that the Bennett-Lapid government will advance negotiations with the Palestinians. I hope that relations with our Arab neighbors, such as Jordan and Egypt, will improve.

Israel needs a year or two of respect and recuperation, even if the period is bound to be riven with political disagreements.

Everyone understands this government will not be able to make major moves on Israel’s most contentious political issues. But it will be able to take steps that make better conditions on the ground.

The leading contender for the Chutzpah Award has to be Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. He’s in a category of his own.

Herzog has his work cut out for him if he intends on serving as the president of all Israelis, rather than using his post to pass judgment on whether we’re living up to his moral standards.
